About the Job | Ngā Mahi

We are seeking applications from Critical Care Paramedics or Intensive Care Paramedics who have completed the Post Graduate diploma in critical care to work at our Taranaki Base.

In this role you will be responsible for providing appropriate clinical assessment and treatment of our patients. You will also need to work closely with the other members of the flight operation/crew adhering to all aviation safety requirements during operations.

Given the location your ability to winch into water and onto vessels is essential, you will be a strong swimmer and physically fit.

Professionalism and the ability to work in a culturally safe way with our patients is also essential.

About you | Ko wai koe

You will have the following minimum skills / qualifications:

  • Currently practicing as an Intensive Care or Critical Care Paramedic
  • Hold a relevant critical care graduate qualification
  • Must have current registration with the Kaunihera Manapou Paramedic Council and hold an Annual Practicing Certificate
  • Must have strong swimming skills eg experience in Surf Lifesaving would be advantageous. Fitness and swimming tests will be required
  • Must be water winch capable, into water and onto vessels

Preference will be given to applicants with:

  • A specialist paramedic practice endorsement
  • Prior aeromedical operational experience (Fixed Wing/Rotary Wing)
  • Capable of being winched from a helicopter into possibly harsh environments to retrieve a patient during both day and night operations. Trial flight may be required.
  • Prior experience in another EMS field
  • Expected to be fit and able to perform the duties required of a Rescue Helicopter Critical Care Paramedic
  • The legal right to work in New Zealand

As part of your employment, you will be required to complete a Police Check.
